Hatton Vale was home to German settlers who began farming in the 1870s. Although the origin of the name is unknown, it replaced the original name Tarampa Woolshed in the 1880s.

A government primary school opened in 1881 and The Catholic Apostolic Church was established in 1889. In 1950 Hatton Vale became the Queensland headquarters of the Apostolic Church and its cathedral was built here. Seating over 1,200 people the cathedral was designed by Karl Langer.

From the 1990's onwards, affordable residential development and its close proximity to Ipswich, Brisbane and Toowoomba make Hatton Vale a popular locality to reside and commute from.

Hatton Vale is home to Hatton Vale Motel and Fairways Tavern and Golf Club. The relaxed lay out of homes, as well as close proximity to exciting activities such as hot air ballooning and sky diving make this a popular spot to stay and explore from. It is conveniently located close to the Warrego Highway, only a short distance from Gatton and other local townships.
