Each year the Lockyer Valley acknowledges residents, community and sporting groups and those that help make this region a great place to live, work and play. The Australia Day Awards are open all year for nominations, culminating in the announcement of the recipients on Australia Day. It is always a pleasure to acknowledge members of the community that do so much and cheer them on as they accept their nominations from the community.

On the same day, the community welcomes 27 new Australian citizens that have chosen to make the Lockyer Valley their home. This is great opportunity to throw out the welcome mat and celebrate with a great ceremony, some entertainment and good Aussie tucker.

This year Council once again welcomes an Australia Day Ambassador to the ceremony. Jeff Horn, former WBO World Welterweight boxing champion is the 2020 Lockyer Valley’s Australia Day Ambassador.

Jeff has built a career on being resilient and the ability to rise above the hand he’s dealt and this really rings true for so many people in the Lockyer Valley.
