High-tech fun at this year’s Ekka!

Visitors to Council’s display at this year’s Royal Queensland Show (Ekka) are set to enjoy a high-tech experience like none other.

Lockyer Valley Regional Council will once again be at the forefront of the 10-day event this month for its opportunity to showcase the Lockyer Valley and all it has to offer.

Lockyer Valley Mayor, Cr Tanya Milligan said the Ekka was an opportunity to directly target the lucrative drive market out of Brisbane and South East Queensland.

“Attending the Ekka allows our Councillors and officers the opportunity to talk directly with as many as 400,000 visitors.

“As with Regional Flavours, Council is going high-tech and creating unique and powerful experiences to connect the digital and physical presence of the Lockyer Valley.

“The Ekka stand will offer two virtual reality experiences that are designed to educate and inspire.

“As well as sitting on the Fergie Tractor, visitors will be able to pop on a headset and experience what it is like to drive a tractor on the farm, through the fields of vegetables with workers picking and packing the produce as they go.

“Hopefully we can tempt them to travel out here to have the real experience,” Mayor Milligan said.

Council has once again secured prime position inside the grand Agricultural Hall, with the stand to feature a Fergie TE20 tractor, decked out in colourful local produce from Rugby Farm, Mulgowie Farming Company, Bauer’s Organic Farm and Barden Produce and herbs thanks to Pohlmans Nursery. The stand has also had a refresh of imagery depicting the Lockyer Valley.

Mayor Milligan said the display would once again be themed to attract the youngest of critics.

“The stand will provide plenty of agriculturally-themed giveaways including seed sticks and tractor tattoos to help encourage children to play vegetable-themed games,” she said.

The always-popular Lockyer Valley destination guide, showcasing the events, accommodation providers, tourism experiences and the stunning natural landscapes of the region, will be available from staff and volunteers.

As part of Ekka, Council will run a competition for a family of four to enjoy a visit to the region with the key prize being a glamping experience with new tourism operator Inntents, who set up camping accommodation in stunning locations.  The winner will also enjoy dining and tour experiences at The Barn and Scotty’s Garage, Das Neumann Haus and Cahill Park Sports Club.

The Ekka will be held at the Brisbane Showgrounds from Friday 9 August – Sunday 18 August 2019.
